I'm a big fan of Jay & Silent Bob myself, so don't get me wrong...
However, I can see how losing them could definitely be beneficial to Kevin's growth as a filmmaker. Right now, it's easy to fall back on his two funny men or simply wedge himself into a deeper position as the "Jay & Silent Bob" guy than he is already. I think with the possibility of the "Clerks" animated series continuing on and the comics continuing, that Jay & Bob can live forever in kind of a way...
... and unless Kevin has secret plans to off them in the next flick, I wouldn't want to prophesize that they would never return or could never return. However, he could take a break - even an extended break - from them and I think it would be a healthy step in his growth as an artist.

I do, too. However, I'm not convinced that seeing every step along the way is necessary. He could still do Old Jay & Bob years from now without making dozens of films with them in the interim.
As a big fan, I'm all in favor of seeing all the different places Kevin is capable of going. I think this could reasonably be a good step towards exploring more things.
