I thought the whole kiss and "thank you" had a very strong feel of Divine Forgiveness to it and I can't help thinking that this was, at the least, intended to be ambiguous... if not fully supporting the idea of them being forgiven outright.
I'm a big fan of ambiguity, though, so I'll happily chock it up to deliberate ambiguity of Kevin's part.
