7:10pm Friday.. 2/3 of the theater at the Maumee Showcase (theater #8 I might add.. the largest one, Pokemon was on 3 smaller ones).. Alot of laughs.. and alot of talk on the way out.. Having seen it in Red Bank, I kinda got the whole 'on the inside' feeling about it.. So as we walk out.. there is a line for the 9:45 show.. and I don't mean a line.. I mean a LINE.. down the hall.. out past the consession stand, out the door.. I looked for the one manager I knew (a good friend since my day of waiting for Episode One) and asked how tix were selling. She said that she had not seen a line like this SINCE Episode One and that all showing the remaining Fri and most of Sat nights shows were already bought.. This at 9:30 on Friday.. Good job...
9:45pm Saturday.. Hit it again.. this time in Southfield Michigan (suburb of Detroit). I've been to this theater several times and is prodominatly a black audience.. There were 18 empty seats in the theater and I also noticed that it was a mostly white audience. Found this interesting.. On the way out.. again.. lots of talk but I heard somethign that was kinda interesting.. Black couple comming out from Dogma, made the comment that if Chris Rock hadn't been in it, they wouldn't have come to see it but were VERY glad they did cause they really enjoyed the movie.. So at this point, while waiting for the lady I took to the movie to come out from "her bussiness" I tagged along and listened.. Interested on what they had to say.. Points follow...
1: They loved Rock..
2: They thought that the "guy who talked all the time, yeah the one who cussed out god was funny as hell"
3: They've never seen a guy do so good on a movie without saying much (meaning you of course)
4: They were listing off friends that they were going to bring to see it..
I felt somewhat vindicated that once again.. You seemed to have tapped into an audience that you normally wouldn't have. Having seen ALL 3 previous flicks in the theater and noticing your audience grow over the years..
Congradulation Kevin... And keep it up...
