Kevin and All Who Are Reading-
Since I read the post from Kevin asking for responses, here's my experience. I couldn't catch it on opening night like I wanted to, I caught the earliest showing I could today (2 in the afternoon).
I am up in Syracuse, NY, and we went to the obscure theater in town, not the metroplex, which is also showing Dogma (because of sell-out fear). I went with a group of about 10 people from my dorm, most of whom were Jersey freaks (Marlboro myself, aww yeah). There were about 50 people, for the early show, and from the reaction of the theater owners they were quite impressed. No protesters, though I heard from said owners that some nuns had come by a few days earlier to sprinkle holy water and stuff as protest.
As for the movie, I thoroughly enjoyed it, and the crowd was very responsive. Everyone I talked to said it was great. Here's hoping that Dogma becomes one of those "word-of-mouth" flicks like the Sixth Sense...certainly deserves to. I dunno where I'd rate it amongst the View Askew cannon (I need to see it again), but I was not disappointed.
To everyone, keep up the great work.
...and now the incredibly painful wait for Clerks 2 begins.
Matt
PS Kevin, I help run the on-campus movies for Syracuse University, and have some ins with the speakers board that brings lecturers to campus. We wanted to try to book ya for an appearance, maybe talk and do a View Askewathon up here, and we've been trying that number that's up on the website for about a month now, but no one ever answers the phone! Can ya help us out?
