(took so long on this that the board died. whoops)
: I don't think the average DOGMA viewer is either a child or a parent of children that age. I don't think POKEMON will have a noticable effect on DOGMA's actual take. I certainly can't see why it would.
Well, i kinda disagree. I think.
Dogma's audience is teens? ("overweight white guys who don't get laid"?), or the average young adult who dug good will hunting, and wanna see salma's tits? those rebelious "thinking people" who sneak around in the world?
Pokemon: the movie gives everyone who's wondered "what the fuck is that cartoon about" a chance to catch up. I may see it just so i can discuss it with my nephew (and some old college buddies who swear by it's seductive cuteness)(fuckers). And i'd like to think i'm prime cut dogma audience (lesse: 22 yrsold, white, pudgy, not laid nearly enough. yup yup)
And I know a lot of teens and twenties parents. I brought up dogma last night at my night job (vid store). A 16 year old girl i work with mentioned interest in ben affleck, but that she loves pokemon. My twenty something boss mentioned his kids' interest in pokemon (and those spoiled brats get whatever they want). They both seemed more apt to see dogma after i mentioned all the good bits, which is neat.
but god forbid she find out that affleck isn't in every scene (i mentioned his and matt's great perfomance). god forbid the boss hears it's an independant film (he only likes big budget visual stunners. i think he'll feel cheated by the sparing use of CG, and lack of excessive violence. not to mention the pacing.).
anyway. LA doesn't represent the US very well, I know.
But I think dogma is an alternative movie. Something main stream people would see if there wasn't something already waiting (hungrily) for their money. and there's a lot waiting right now (as yall mentioned : dogma, messenger, 007, sleepy hollow)
anyway. just wanted to try and reply.
more later dude.
