: Actually I think that movies in general will do really well this weekend. Personally, I am having a tough time as i want to see Dogma, The Messenger, and even Anywhere But Here (Portman is a force to be reckoned with), and I still haven't seen Being John Malkovich. The problem is that finals are next week.

Ok, there's a system that's very effective in scouting out which movies are going to suck.

Ok, good movies either don't include any reviews in their advertising or they put the critics name and/or paper in big bold letters. DOGMA does the latter, it doesn't even mention Roger Ebert or Time magazine, so it certainly doesn't have to dredge up some obscure critic for good reviews.

It's a very bad sign when they have audience members walking out of the theater raving, but some good movies have used it.

However, the unreadable names of critics always means something is amiss. Even pretty mediocre films get good reviews from a couple of noteworthy critics. And this has to be said... THE MESSENGER has the very smallest writing telling what critics they took their quotes from I've ever seen. You'd think it was a drug company disclaimer. We'll see this weekend, but I smell a stinker coming, I'm sorry to say.

To be honest, I love both Portman and Sarandon, but ANYWHERE BUT HERE still looks like either a really pointless movie or a misleading advertising campaign. Neither one of which are a good sign.
