: What was the last Autumn release you can think of that opened with more that 20 mil? Seriously. Titanic hit 20 mil a few times, but that was after it's opening weekend of, around, 18.
: I could be wrong, but it strikes me that Autumn (Oscar season) movies always open under 20; whereas, Summer (blockbuster) movies have to score at least 20 to hit #1.
: To further the point, in the Autumn season, I think that the second or third week is key - as that tells you what's gonna become of a movie. In the Summer, the first weekend pretty much ensures a movies fate.
: That, tho, is just my opinion.
Uhm, Titanic opened on December 19, same day as Tomorrow Never Dies (yes, i'm a dork and saw them both that day). Anyway, even though that may technically be Autumn, i think that mid November and the week before Christmas are completely different beasts.
But anything is possible.
