Anyone read this week's bastardized 'just let it die' shallow echo of Film Threat, "Film Threat Weekly"?
Good ol Chris Gore. I remember when he was nuts about Clerks and his magazine devoted the bulk of an issue to Mallrats...
And then, when Amy came out and garnered a fair amount of mainstream support, he blasted the hell out of Amy, Rats and Clerks? Remember that? I sure do.
Of course, now... now before a critical point in Dogma's lifespan... he calls Clerks "brilliant yet incompetent", he was "not impressed" with Mallrats and found Amy "amateurish"...
But gives a mixed review of Dogma, just on the basis of an advance copy of the soundtrack...
" While I have heard that Dogma is another dialog-heavy Smith film, I am encouraged by the strength of the music and I can't wait to see it."
I don't know WHAT the hell he's trying to do with that line? Suck up? Backhanded compliment? What?
He's covering his ass so that either way, in two or three months when it's all
gone down, he can say he was right.
Sad was the moment when I picked up one of the "fully glossy" Film Threats, years ago, saw Gore had taken back control of the magazine... basically as a venue of self-promotion after failing at (what was it?) video game design or whatnot.
Sadder still was lambasting Gore long ago for switching his opinion on Kevin's films so that he could be all "cynical, jaded, GenX cool and such" in e-mail... and only getting in response a weekly e-mail bulletin of his paltry... and ever shifting and adapting to public whim... opinions on flicks.
He's no longer sensing backlash, so he turns opinions back towards the positive-ish? What the fuck is that?
I don't know what's more pathetic...
That Chris Gore has spent the last years destroying what was left of what was Film Threat's once good name by constantly playing into whatever he thinks the trendy people think any given moment...
Or that I waste my time still occasionally reading the damn thing.
