I agree with this. In CHASING AMY the story decides the action and the jokes come out of that. In a comedy the jokes dictate the story. Both CLERKS and MALLRATS would be comedies.

I disagree. The basic story is about the romantic angle. Perhaps if the original opening had been left in and all the allusions to it, then a better case could be made for this.

My advice, though, is to discuss the matter with your English teacher. Start by asking what defines a "drama"? Then find a way to make CHASING AMY fit that definition.
